Brief:
Develop a methodological approach to Jorge Leuis Borge’s, The Library of Babel, (1941).
'The Library of Babel' being a short fictional story describing an "infinite universe of hexagonal libraries" - each fitted with uniform interior components such as bookshelves and ventilation shaft.

My approach was to communicate the libraries design non-verbally, through technical illustrations and parodied IKEA’s user manuals. This process lead me into areas of product design and CAD as the galleries interior components would need to be designed. This hexagonal bookshelf was created during the earlier stages of the projects digital development.

BÄBEL assembly (technical illustrations).

I wanted to deliver a comprehensive visual guide which could communicate the arbitrary short story non-verbally through visual language. Parodying user manuals in this way gave me a vehicle to communicate to the reader the complex technical nature of the story through an easy to interpret visual medium.
